Eligibility Criteria & Vacancy / Seat Details
General Eligibility:
- Educational Qualification: Bachelor's Degree or Master's Degree from a University established by law in India, or an equivalent qualification (as per Rule 7 of the Karnataka Gazetted Probationers Rules, 1997)
- Minimum Age: 21 years (all candidates)
- Maximum Age: 40 years (General Merit), 43 years (Category 2A/2B/3A/3B), 45 years (SC/ST/Category-1)
- Additional Relaxation: One-time 5-year additional relaxation for all categories (per GO No. āēļāēāē 262 āēŠāēŋāēāē°āē 2025, dated 29-01-2026); Ex-servicemen get service length + 3 years; PWD get 10 years; widowed/divorced (not remarried) get 10 years

Selection / Admission / Evaluation Process
Selection follows a two-stage process as prescribed under the Gazetted Probationers Rules, 1997:

Preliminary Examination (Screening Test)
- Objective type (Multiple Choice), 2 papers, 400 marks total
- Each paper: 200 marks, 2 hours duration
- Paper I: General Studies (National & International importance) â 100 questions, 200 marks
- Paper II: General Studies (State importance, General Science & Technology, Environment & Ecology, General Mental Ability) â 100 questions, 200 marks
- Negative marking: 0.25 marks for every wrong answer
- Screening only â marks not counted towards final merit
- Admission to Main Exam in 1:15 ratio against notified vacancies

Main Examination (Descriptive/Conventional)
- 5 compulsory papers + 2 qualifying language papers (Kannada & English)
- Qualifying Papers: Kannada (150 marks, 2 hrs) and English (150 marks, 2 hrs) â minimum 35% (52.5 marks) required in each to qualify
- Paper 1: Essay â 250 marks, 3 hours
- Paper 2: General Studies-1 â 250 marks, 3 hours
- Paper 3: General Studies-2 â 250 marks, 3 hours
